We will never know what made this sweet little beagle Trixie scared of the world and everything in it…Trixie is 7 year old that was surrendered with another basset in North Carolina.  We could not leave her behind.  She became part of TSBHR family in May of 2018.  Never has there been a more timid dog, borderline feral. For a week she was hunched into the corner of her foster home with her eyes facing the wall.  You could sense that she was just praying no one came near her.  Every time you would walk up to her she would drop onto the floor assuming the position for something horrible to happen to her.  After a week in the corner, her siblings started going to her and sitting next to her and licking her ears.  It was like they were saying you are safe; you will not be hurt ever again.  Within a day of the attention from the other dogs Trixie stopped looking at the wall and was wide eyed and watching everything in the room at all times.  You could sense her longing to play with the other dogs and feel her need to run free in the yard with them.  Still unsure of her surroundings and unable to understand trust Trixie spent another week hunched in the corner, but again watching every movement in the room.  Trixie’s foster mom woke up one morning and found Trixie in the middle of the living room wrestling with the other dogs like a little banshee! This brought tears to her family’s eyes.  Very quickly though the hope faded.  Once Trixie saw her foster mom she retreated to the corner again staring at the wall.  It was obvious that Trixie was comfortable with other dogs and horrified of humans.  Trixie has been with the same foster since she came to TSBHR in 2018.  Throughout Trixie’s time she has very slowly come around.  She still cowards when you go to pet her but a couple of weeks ago she walked up to her foster mom to be pet on the head.  This was a major breakthrough. Trixie is coming around and starting to interact with humans.  The question to be asked is what happened so horrible to this baby that she chooses isolation and fear over love and happiness.
