A new addition to Tri-State is purebred Basset, Hazel. Found as a stray in an Arkansas park along with 2 other dogs, this skinny, tri-colored 10+ year old girl needs some rest and relaxation. Belly Rubs Basset Rescue took in the other senior who had been hit by a car and had a broken front leg. Tri State took senior Hazel and Abigail, her friend who was dumped with her. Luckily, our foster network is expansive and Hazel and Abigail were been placed in a safe and loving foster homes in Arkansas. Like so many hounds we save in the South, Hazel is heartworm positive and she also has a tick-borne illness (called ehrlichiosis) and is anemic (probably from all the parasites). Monthly heartworm/flea/tick meds would have prevented this old hound from suffering. Who knows how long Hazel was neglected, but now that she is in good hands we can treat the costly illnesses she has contracted. And most importantly, we can provide her all the things a senior dog deserves: a warm and comfy bed, good nutrition, toys, treats, ear scratches, belly rubs and unconditional love and affection for the rest of her days. Her foster mom reports that Hazel is coming out of her shell. She is great with all the dogs (big and small), the cats and even a little lamb that the foster is caring for! Hazel has been eating well, is housebroken, is quiet in the crate and is starting to be playful with the other animals. In the coming weeks we will continue to evaluate Hazel’s health and temperament to see if she can be adopted. If not, Hazel will want for nothing and will live with one of our wonderful hospice fosters for the rest of her days. Please click here to sponsor Hazel and help pay for her many medical needs.
